10 tips to protect your pet

The pets can be our best friends, because we provide company , awaken our best instincts and are part of our family. There are many types of pets that you can adopt, from the most common (dogs and cats) to the most exotic, such as snakes or tarantulas.

Since each species is different and requires different attention, in Salud180 we give you 10 tips to protect the health of your pet, such as dogs:

1.- Avoid constantly loading it: Try to resist this temptation, because your body is very delicate. If you do, first place one hand on its back and another under the chest, lift it with both hands and keep it next to your body so that it feels safe.

2.- Schedule for your needs: Establish a regular feeding routine ; If it is a dog, take it for a walk often to make your needs, especially when you wake up. If you see him walking in circles or moaning near the door, these are sure signs that he needs to go outside quickly. In the case of cats, remember that they defecate in the sand, which you must change every 5 days.

3.- Take care of your hygiene: Regular brushing is essential for young dogs, because it eliminates dead hair, dirt and parasites ; In addition, it stimulates the blood supply to the skin , which generates a healthier and brighter looking coat. Use special equipment for this action.

As for the bathroom, do it only when you need it, because too many washes can remove the essential oils from the skin , making it more matt and less impermeable to water. To do this, use a bathtub or shower, warm water and a quality shampoo. Rub it, trying not to get water in your eyes and ears. Dry it vigorously with a towel and make sure your pet is completely dry.

4.- Monitor your dentition and chewing: To help all the teeth come out and stop biting the furniture, your puppy will need some indestructible object such as a rubber bone or a chewing ball. Make sure these products are the right size so you can’t swallow them. Avoid real bones, as they can splinter and suffocate you. To control tartar and dental plaque, it is advisable to nourish it with a dry food, as it will help loosen the milk teeth and thus accelerate the teething process. If your puppy’s mouth is very sensitive, soften the food by first immersing it in water.

5.- A correct health care. When adopting a pet, you should have a check of visits to the specialist. In the case of puppies, they are susceptible to any contagious disease, so it is advisable to make an early visit to the veterinarian. The first vaccines will be administered already at 6-8 weeks of life. For complete protection, you should return to the veterinarian so that he can give you several injections.

6.- Diet and exercise. They are vital for the welfare of your pet , especially if it is a dog or a cat. Being very playful and energetic, you must ensure that they perform the right exercise . He is also responsible for giving the animal the nutrition it needs from the beginning.

7.- Learn to detect diseases: Often, you may think that your pet does not feel well and a quick visit to the veterinarian will help you confirm that something is wrong. Some symptoms are: loss of appetite, water rejection, sudden decrease or increase in weight , slowness or refusal to play, frequent or low urination, bloody or soft stools, vomiting , excessive salivation or irregular breathing .

8.- Train him: Nobody likes a disobedient and uncontrolled dog, so by adopting it you can start with his training. One of the first things you should do is recognize your name. Use it as often as you can to get his attention: when you congratulate him and when you feed him.

9.- Identify it: Get your dog used to wear a soft collar from the beginning. After a while, add a short and light strap and get carried away by it without pulling it for a few days. The goal is to get him used to walking with you without him pulling. If it runs, or is delayed, a gentle pull is all you should do. Stay close to him so he doesn’t feel like letting go.

10.- Trips with your pet: Life can be very complicated if you don’t use your dog to travel by car. First, get him used to making small journeys of 5 to 10 minutes on alternate days, and gradually increases the duration of the trips until you feel comfortable.

When you adopt a puppy, he will be restless and want to explore his new environment. Do not leave him alone for a long time, he needs your attention and affection during the first days.
